As many of you know, the Prince of Wales Hotels is a stunning hotel located in Niagara On The Lake. It is part of the 3 vintage hotels in the area and is a landmark of beauty and elegance. When I was shooting weddings I had many opportunities to see the hotel at night which really inspired me to go back and capture what you now see. The night I went out it had just finished raining and was a beautiful 15 degrees out. A nice warm spring night with absolutely no one in sight: Amazing! I was planning on shooting a variety of locations in NOTL and the Prince of Wales was my final stop. The image I captured is unique because of the reflection in the water. I can come back any night and get the same shot of the hotel at the same angle but I won’t be able to get the same water/reflection.
This photo was captured as a long exposure over 33 seconds with my camera on the ground being proper up by my battery grip. You might be wondering why no tripod, well I did have one but it was too high to get the angle needed. My settings were ISO 100, 16mm, f/22 and 33 seconds. In all this was a massive success and a great image to start a conversation.
